Bette Paul, author of children's books, was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. She grew up and went to school in the town before taking the adventurous step of heading for London to be a student. Having graduated she enjoyed a busy but successful twenty-five year career as a teacher in the schools of Nottinghamshire (Robin Hood had long since moved on).
Eventually taking early retirement, Bette turned her energies to writing from her cottage in rural Derbyshire. She has one grown-up son and although widely published, is best known for her books for children and teenagers.
